Hated the movie. I had to review it in detail for a class, and I wrote about how the cinematography was brilliant, the lighting was gorgeous and genius at telegraphing symbolism, the acting was great ... and the story just wasn't explained properly, went too fast, assumed we'd read the book and studied the Cold War extensively. I took frantic notes throughout the movie and still didn't completely get what was going on. I was bored and engaged at the same time. What a frustrating film to review for class. Twice. Everyone else got to make a vlog and write an essay about fucking Project X, and I chose this because Benedict Cumberbatch is pretty and the story sounded cool.

The HoYay and the exquisite camera work was all that kept me going. UNF.

If you want a slower, less compressed version, watch the old mini-series. It's great. Too slow for my taste, but that doesn't mean it's too slow for yours.

I will, thank you for recommending it. I just felt that the movie tried to cram in too much information without fully explaining about 3/4ths of it, and assumed I'd read the book and seen the miniseries.

The camerawork was pure genius, though. And I'd honestly watch it again just to study the lighting, I kid you not.

I went because I love the book, but came out of the theatre raving about the beautiful shots.
