I have literally never heard slut used that way. In actual use, I'm really only seen it used to shame women for being sexually active. If it was about any of those things, I think you'd hear slut leveled at men a lot more often.

Obviously it remains sexual, and it is used in a very female-directed way. I was simply trying to explore some of the connotations of the insult within the standard sexist framework.

Amongst people I know, slut is usually aimed at men at least as often as women, probably more. And not just because somebody is sexually active. The women I've heard called a slut usually refer to themselves as one, and pretty proudly... but that might be word reclaiming?

I'm not saying that it's a flattering term, I just wanted to say that a lot of people apply it to both genders equally.
