How did it get infected, if the skin wasn't broken? I mean, the bacteria or whatever must have gotten in there somehow, right?

Look up cellulitis on Google; that's what the docs called it. I can't even explain it properly - I'm told it happens a lot to old people and those with diabetes or some other disease weakening their immune system ... but I don't have any of those things (I did have an x-ray, an ultrasound, and a blood test, as well as a finger stick, so I know these things). My doctors can ONLY figure my body must have had a pathogen floating around in there that it would've normally fought off as normal - except the physical trauma weakened the antibodies at that location (and it was restricted to my lower leg) and things went haywire.

If any of you lot reading this are brilliant M.D.s and diagnosticians, I'd like to know if you have a different hypothesis, frankly.

Thanks, I hope I am! The skin there is still mottled, and with the numbness and all - I hope it's OK. But I can walk on it fine and it doesn't seem to be diseased or anything. So who knows, maybe I'll just have a numb patch until I'm 80, LOL.
