Nick at Nite in the mid-90s: summer marathon

[personal profile] vicfrankenstein 2012-09-01 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
This is bothering me because NOBODY ELSE REMEMBERS IT.

Sometime in the mid to late 90s, over the summer, Nick at Night did an all-night marathon of a different show a day. Andy Griffith was Monday, I think, and I Love Lucy was one of the days. Since the themes were all instrumental, Nick at Night had them with some lyrics to help promote it. The one they did for the Andy Griffith show is the reason I've never liked it, and I want to listen to it again. I always think of it when I hear that theme.

I also wanna know I'm not imagining this. I have such a happy memory of practicing the unicycle in the basement while the TV plays I Love Lucy.

I don't remember this specifically, but I do remember them playing lots of old shows. I remember watching HR Pufnstuf and Land of the Lost at, like, 2 am.

What you are describing sounds familiar.

They called it "Block Party Summer", I'm pretty sure, and the lineup changed every year. I remember the jingles, but not that one specifically. :(

I'm pretty sure I remember this! I watched a lot of Nick at Night around that time. I don't remember lyrics, though.

Argh, this is one of things that lurks right around my memory, but unfortunately without hearing the specific commercial jingles again, all I remember is: "Nick at Nite! All-night, every night, good TV for your app-e-tite!" and then they would show the week's schedule and then zoom in one show, right? Something like that?

There's a lot of 90's Nick at Nite promos floating around YouTube... maybe pore through some of those collections? (so tempted to spend time doing that today now...)
