No, they're not. Alien faces have no meaning for us (excusing asari). Depicting them as humans is an interesting exercise in giving them a face meaningful to humans. For instance, design-wise, Ariel the Little Mermaid looks youthful and exuberant. Superman looks strong, heroic, capable, and kind. Gandalf looks wise. But Garrus doesn't look like anything. He just looks like a turian. Trying to match up a human face to his personality and turian design is an interesting challenge that is obviously interesting to fans.

To bad approximately zero of the artists who attempt it have managed to do it well. Every single one I've seen was just some generic pretty boy, even with the horrific facial scarring. No thanks.
