It's also worth noting that Naruto is a shounen, which means that, while girls may read it too, it's mainly aimed at boys. 80-90% of shounen manga suffers from the 'disease' of "making male characters super powerful and MAYBE having ONE strong female character, but she will probably never be as strong as the male character". That said, it's pretty impressive how much character development the girls actually get in Naruto. At least, that's what I think.
