I almost squealed during the episode where Diana revealed that she wanted a longer engagement than her partner because just that one little detail made her relationship a very real one with mundane problems. In one scene, the writers managed to (a) show the relationship was just like any other, (b) show that women have different opinions on this commitment thing rather than being all hungry to get married, and (c) show how the fight for equal rights is immediately relevant to real people in real relationships.

On a worse show, this never would have happened. Diana's relationship would only be relevant as far as it could titillate the audience.

Yup. I love them being just another couple with 'couple' sort of problems, not Very Special people who are automatically better or more endearing or more special or whatever.

Which, even though the 'they're all gay!' world of fanfiction isn't very realistic, it's a huge part of the reason why I read so much of it. I'm just sick to death of the tired, trite, and non-inclusive world of 'regular' books, movies, and tv.
