Important: I'm really sorry about this, but I accidentally misclicked and deleted the submission post from last week instead of saving it. Managed to save the first page (25) of secrets, but the rest (about 100 or so) are gone.

If you submitted something last week (Aug 26-Sept 1), please resubmit it here.

The submissions post for next week is below as usual.

AO3 problem I feel bad for even venting about

(Anonymous) 2012-09-03 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I added a new chapter to one of my fics last night (so, nearly 20 hours ago at this point). It still hasn't been bumped up to the top of my fandom's main page - it's sat near the end of the first page right now, as it was before I posted the update, and the information visible on the main page says there's still only 4 chapters, not five. If you click on it, it says five, and if view my profile, it also says five. I tried clearing my cache. I tried logging out. I also notice that the hitrate is very low compared to what would be usual for an updated fic in this fandom so I assume it's not just my browser that's having a problem.

I feel really, really whiny and entitled and like I'm just begging for attention here but I feel so frustrated by this. :(

A posted about a similar problem a while back -- the fic I uploaded didn't go to the top of of the fandom list, but stayed on the bottom. It's still there, on the very bottom, so I can only assume it'll never go to the top where it should be. Sorry if it ends up being the same for you.

Oh, fuck. Does this happen to everyone, or is it just a random thing? I'll have another update ready to go soon and obviously I would really like it to not happen again. According to the front page there's been no new activity in our fandom since August 31st - not that unusual, we're a fairly small fandom and we average a little under one new fic a week, but when I noticed that I wondered if I was the only one that was getting affected by this. I'm troubled that you said it happened with a brand new fic you uploaded, not a new chapter - can I ask what the datestamp on your fic said when it appeared at the bottom of the fandom list? Just seems like if it had the right date on it that would make NO SENSE AT ALL. Mine is still dated as of the last update I made before that.

I have no idea if it's a common thing or not -- I very rarely use AO3 (was kinda thinking about starting, but now I'm unsure), so that's why I asked here.

The datestamp on my fic is "24 Aug 2012", which is indeed when I uploaded it. The fic just above mine in the list (i.e. the oldest), is dated "7 Dec 2011" >:\

I've been browsing A03 lately and this is a recurrent problem for me. Newer fics don't show up where they should and it makes tracking new updates harder than it should be.

You know, honestly, there have been some very odd things happening at the archive lately, especially regarding updates - stories showing up in odd places in the line up, stories switching places, stories not showing up, or being dated strangely.

On their Known Issues pag (http://archiveofourown.org/known_issues) under General Issues is this: Issues resulting from page caching: To counteract some of the site slowness and improve load times, we introduced more page caching for some areas of the site. You can read more about this in the Release Notes for deploy 0.8.17. While we're still ironing out any bugs and improving how the pages are cached, some issues might occur. Currently, hit counts might appear on your works even if you have set them to be hidden (or vice versa), and work blurbs on tag pages might take a while to update, meaning that a recently updated work might not move to the top of the list immediately or list the wrong number of chapters. The data will display correctly on the work page itself; on tag pages, reordering the works with one of the sort buttons will fix the listing.
