Notes:

Important: I'm really sorry about this, but I accidentally misclicked and deleted the submission post from last week instead of saving it. Managed to save the first page (25) of secrets, but the rest (about 100 or so) are gone.

If you submitted something last week (Aug 26-Sept 1), please resubmit it here.

The submissions post for next week is below as usual.

Secrets Left to Post: ?? pages, ??? secrets from Secret Submission Post #296.

Yeah, House was often too much for me. And the thing is, with House it always felt intentional and malicious, where with Sherlock, at least sometimes it comes off as him just not realizing what he's doing. I think the "Asperger's" comment in "Hounds" had a point.

+1 It's more like he just has limited storage space in his brain and he has so much input coming in CONSTANTLY that he doesn't want to have to process being nice to people also.

Also, people generally think he's weird for his talents so I think he acts more cold and weird so that they will leave him alone.

Yeah, I can see him being weird/dickish to push people away. Heck, given the way people usually react to his deductions, you could say he was even doing that with John in ASiP.

I totally read an interp on tvtropes that basically amounted to him doing just that. "You don't hate me yet even though I just exposed your whole life? Congrats we're now living together. Hope you like explosions, and your dating life is officially over."

That's because with House it often was intentional. Not always - there were rare cases where he didn't entirely understand how his words or actions would affect people, but usually, yea, he did. Sherlock probably doesn't know any better, because like biohazard said, he doesn't bother to remember what's acceptable and what's not. And then you both commented on him possibly acting that way to scare people off, which also sounds like something he would do.

Yeah, I only watched House off and on, but I got the impression that he was probably a perfectly decent guy - maybe a little on the abrasive side but not a total ass - before his infarction and that's why he had such a loyal friend in Wilson, a girlfriend, and respect in his profession.

I found it hard to keep watching House after a while because it felt like he was doing it all on purpose - acting out of chronic pain and a sense of betrayal yes, but still on purpose - and that made the way he'd abuse his friends and colleagues really hard to swallow. I'll cut a little more slack for the guy who doesn't realize what he said was "not good" compared to the guy who knows he's causing pain and does it anyway - even to people who can't escape him as easily as his patients can (once they're cured).

From the little we saw of House before the infarction, that's exactly the impression I got as well. I think Wilson commented once on how much he'd changed since then.

I don't blame you. Like I said, I enjoyed the show despite how awful House could be, but there were many occasions where like the OP of the secret, I wanted to punch House (you know, instead of Sherlock). Many of House's actions were inexcusable, but in the case of Sherlock...the examples aren't usually as severe.

I didn't mean to say Sherlock and House were the same, btw, just that their own individual kinds of asshole behavior have both put off potential viewers before. Again, while I like House, I'd cut Sherlock much more slack as well.

S'okay, I didn't think you meant it that way, but I do think it's an interesting contrast: two characters who can be real dicks but who are coming from different places with it.
