Ohh I have one! The prom thingy confuses me a lot.

I always thought it was at the end of your last year of high school as a celebration for finishing it.
But then came Glee which had the prom episode with Kurt getting crowned and then the next year another prom episode! Is there a prom every year, or usually there is only a senior prom and Glee exaggerated a bit in order to be able to make another prom episode?

I couldn't say anything about how Glee handled it (don't watch it), but more than one prom isn't really uncommon. Some schools have a Junior Prom and a Senior Prom.

Also, you can invite a guest to prom, so someone could go to prom every year they were in HS even if the school only had a Senior Prom.

Every year has a prom because every year has a graduating class.

But why do the younger kids attend or try to get a spotlight? We have something similar in my country, but those dances are about that year's students. It's their time to show off not some younger kids.

Generally juniors and seniors are allowed to attend prom and underclassmen only if they are the dates of juniors and seniors. sometimes it is separated out and there's a juniors only prom and a seniors only prom, but usually the prom is those two grades together. At lots of schools, the juniors put on the prom for the seniors--come up with the theme, decorate, etc.

My school had a junior prom and a senior prom. I think most schools do.

My school had one senior prom each year. Only seniors could attend. The only way anyone else could come is if they were a date of a senior.
