Define "cutting out"? We all have some friends who are closer than others, and some people we are going to spend more time with, trust more, share more with, etc.

da, but the OP's secret said they were saying they were busy when they had plans. It is kind of a jerk move to cancel a plan on one friend just because something came up with another friend. If it's always an emergency that's one thing, but the wording makes me skeptical. And since they're not explaining to the irl friends, it's going to hurt feelings anyway if they're "busy" often enough.

I feel like there's not enough information to tell and you're kind of assuming the worst. It could be true, but we don't really know.

If one of my friends has a crisis, another friend would understand. I've been on the receiving end of it too and it kind of sucks but I don't begrudge my friends their priorities - they are helping out someone who is in need. It doesn't even have to be an "emergency" - though it depends on what your definition of that is.

We have no idea what the frequency is of OP changing plans with their friends, if their friends are upset, how dire the situation is with their online friends, etc.

tl;dr we probably shouldn't jump to conclusions here.
