It's not silly at all OP. My Hunter in World of Warcraft has two cat pets that are similar in looks and named after my two cats that died this year. I'd do it in pokémon as well if there was a creature(besides a Persian) that resemebled them.

I don't know if I'd ever be able to do that. I think it would kill me a little bit inside every time she fainted. Perhaps that's partly because she's getting really old. =(

This happened to me literally yesterday when I started playing Pokémon Black yesterday. At first I saw those Lilipups and thought they were pretty lame, then some Gym trainer had the evolution and HOLY FUCK.
