Notes:

Important: I'm really sorry about this, but I accidentally misclicked and deleted the submission post from last week instead of saving it. Managed to save the first page (25) of secrets, but the rest (about 100 or so) are gone.

If you submitted something last week (Aug 26-Sept 1), please resubmit it here.

The submissions post for next week is below as usual.

Secrets Left to Post: ?? pages, ??? secrets from Secret Submission Post #296.

I RP with people who are way younger than me, and my number one concern is that they think I'm a creeper, or that their parents will think I'm a creeper. :D;

But I'm glad to hear that you had a great time! Goodness knows I have lots of fun RPing silly stuff with my younger peers, and all in the name of good fun. <3

Same D: I ended up meeting a friend through RP last year who was 16 (I was 22 then). Was going up to her area for a concert and just couldn't get it through her head why I didn't want to sleep on her couch and be that creepy older girl you met on the internet to her family.

Ironically, I ended up accidentally falling asleep at her house and having a very interesting conversation with her mother the next morning about how "cool" and "interesting" it was that kids could make friends on the internet now!

Um, why is 22 creepy to a 16 year old?

When I was 16 (3 years ago) I would honestly have been paranoid about even an 18 year old hanging around one of my friends. Now I wouldn't feel as paranoid, but age differences feel bigger the younger you are. For me anyway. I know that it's an irrational response, but I would immediately feel wary.

Note: of course I'm only talking about a situation where the older person is some totally random near-stranger from the internet who just shows up in rl, not "ahh it's my friend's older brother, run away run away!"

It seems a lot creepier to me now than it would have when I was younger, tbh. Like... I guess I kept thinking of the ways that I could have taken advantage of the situation if I intended anything a little darker than just being friends with her.

Like I said in another comment, I hadn't realized until I reached this age how much trust highschoolers are willing to put in me as long as I don't seem creepy. I'm an adult, been through college, had several jobs, apartments, own a car that I bought with my own money, a lot of stuff that seems far away and huge to a lot of 16-year-olds. There's a serious imbalance that makes me really uncomfortable....

For this particular girl, I had known her for about a year and a half before this happened, and felt (still feel!) like an older sister to her, so had it been a situation where I was just meeting up with her, I wouldn't have felt creepy. It was the fact that I was coming into her family's home and they had never spoken to me before, only had her word that I wasn't a predator or something (because a 6-year age difference is significant).

Ha! At least her mom doesn't think you're a creeper! That must have been pretty awkward, though.

My mom also tells me about how interesting it is to meet people online, and then interrogates me when my fandom friends send me cards for Christmas. :D;

Yeah, she's really sweet :'3 Her grandma was wayyyyyyy more wary about me XD I was half asleep at one point and could hear her asking my friend's mom who I was and why I was in their house.

Haha, my mom is baffled by how I can consider them "real friends" and tells me she went through a "fake friends" phase too. I've gotten cards and presents and she's so confused every time about why my fake friends want to send me things.

ROFL! And that's why they're "real" friends!
