Holy crap I just wandered into the Elementary tag on tumblr.

I should not have done that.

Anybody else traumatized from the racism and misogyny?

The sad thing is there was a day and a half ish period, like right after the pilot first leaked, when the positive non racist/sexist posts far outweighed the bad. But now it's been enough time that all the terrible "Sherlock rules, everything else suuuuucks" fans have gotten a chance to watch it too and feel compelled to weigh in.

Dear God, I don't even UNDERSTAND this line of thinking. What's the problem with liking both? And the Ritchie films? And Jeremy Brett? And Young Sherlock Holmes? And Great Mouse Detective? And any other version you've seen that you've enjoyed? I really don't get it.

Personally, I think it's more of an anti-American thing. Some fans see this as Americans attempting to steal the thunder of Moffat's version. Like for some strange reason if people like CBS's version, they will instantly give up Moffat's version. Which, I know it's weird. But some people believe that.

Me, on the other hand, I will take Sherlock anyway you give it to me. British version, American version, anime version, Veggie Tale version. I don't care. I want to see it.

Sherlock is one of the most adapted source materials in pop culture. If you can think of a version of it, it probably exists.

That's why I think this whole Sherlock vs. Elementary thing is so silly. It's like people are forgetting about the hundreds of other adaptations out there. And none of them cancelled each other out.

You have a dog version of Sherlock in Wishbone, You have an animated mice version in The Great Mouse Detective, you even have the Star Trek homage version with Data and Geordie running around has Holmes and Watson. You want a musical? It exists! It even once came in ballet form.

A person can make it their life long hobby collecting everything Sherlock out there and never run out of things to find.

Haven't seen the pilot yet but sadly when Elementary was first announced I saw a ton of this. I'm not at all surprised that it's crazy right now and although I haven't visited the Sherlock tags on tumblr in a good while, I don't have any desire to knowing what I'd find. Sorry you ran into that, anon. :/

Aaaaand it's been multitagged by haters. Because, you know, if you want to talk about how much Elementary is this total rip off of Moffat's, or how unfaithful it is to book canon, etc., you gotta reach out to all the tags.

That I have to scroll past even the "why are people mucking up the new tag"-type posts is also annoying. I can't wait for tumblr to calm down (somewhat) in a few weeks before I recheck that tag orz

Do not ever search tags on tumblr. It will only lead you to to pain and tears. Just stick to your dashboard, follow people who make great posts, and branch out based on who they reblog.
