I have a severe needle phobia. The one time I had to have blood drawn for medical reasons, I nearly passed out from anxiety and fear. It was to the point where my vision went fuzzy, my ears started ringing, and I was lightheaded. I've nearly had panic attacks when I had to get injections. I can't even watch when my cats get their shots at the vet.

I don't have any theoretical objection to giving blood, but I don't think the nice people at the donation centers need me to show up, freak out, and tip over on them. Nor do I think it especially wise to put myself through that kind of stress.
