Oh, same, anon, same. I always feel terrible about it. :/

2-3 weeks? You know, I think your fandoms will get along without you for that long.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-07 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
not if it's RP. I've done the same thing as the OP and taken hiatuses from RP and I always feel bad because they have to move on without me but I'm just too interested in the other new thing

i take care to actually hiatus though instead of going inactive at least, though. its the people who don't do even that who annoy me lots

This is sort of me too, except I've gone missing from fandoms for much longer than 2-3 weeks. Still, I'm the same way as you - when I latch onto something new, it's hard to concentrate on anything else for (at least) a bit. (Though I do almost always go back to my 'old' fandoms, yea.) Mostly I think it's because I like to focus on one thing at a time; maybe you're the same?

oh i am exactly like this. except replace "2/3 weeks" with "about a year or more"
i dont get into fandoms often, but when i do, i dont fuck around

I like to imagine that these new fandoms are like adventurous trysts. And that once you come back to your regular fandoms, they just look at you in your disheveled state, missing a shoe, maybe a shitty tattoo that wasn't there before, and they're all, "Guuuurl, where have you been?"

and you don't answer, you just wear the dopiest of smiles and take a seat at the table.

I do this, too, OP.

oh mannnnnn I'm exactly the same. I never leave my old fandoms (unless I genuinely stop liking them, which is super rare) but for awhile ALL I WANT IS MY NEW FANDOM. Then I calm down and it kinda joins the pack and I happily swim around in all of them on a fairly-equal basis. :D

I wish I did this.

What I do instead is fight the urge to move fandoms while completely losing the ability to create anything in my current fandom. By the time I do give in and wander over to my "new" fandom, it's been months and the new fandom has often slowed, plus I'm all depressed from giving in. :/

Fandom is a harsh mistress for me, okay?

I get feeling bad, because I do as well sometimes, when this happens to me. But I think feeling this way makes sense. You get into something new, of course it's going to be the cool, shiny new thing for a while. That can make it tough to devote your energy to other fandoms, and there's also the fact that you have finite time to begin with.

I always feel a little bad, too, though. And it always happens to me at inconvenient times. Like, I got into my latest fandom while I was working on a fic for a fic fest in my other fandom. It made it really hard to focus on my fic.
