Casual gamer: Somebody who plays games because they enjoy them and they are fun.

Hardcore gamer: Someone who pwnd your noob ass in whatever the FPS of the month is, then spent half an hour insulting you in voice chat because they are more hardcore than u.

It's hard not to be, I don't blame you. The "hardcore" gamers want to be special and 1337 and above the rest and well, if the rest group up and think they're assholes, that's what happens.

Is there something in between the two? My playing style is more casual (generally I try to pretend other people aren't playing around me) but the GF and I spend around $400 a year on new games/expansions/DLC, so... it's not that casual

Same here; like, I don't play online ever and I very rarely play multiplayer (only Borderlands occasionally), but I play a lot of games and titles that aren't considered casual.

It's such a weird thing, because people have created this dichotomy of casual and hardcore gamers when really a lot of people are somewhere in between.

I'm just getting really tired of the labeling. If you game, you are a gamer. The end.

(Not saying you HAVE to call yourself a gamer. But if it's at least a hobby for you, no matter how "casual", I think you have the right to do so, and comparing who is more hardcore than who is so silly because games =/= all of life.)

"Casual hardcore" is a thing I've seen tossed around. The dedicated player that plays a lot but just plays to have fun and isn't all that competitive like the usual hardcore player.
