I don't think OP means 3D as in 3D glasses, but games with polygons as opposed to sprite-based games?

If that's the case, then I don't get the secret at all. I mean, real life is in 3D, live-action movies are in 3D... what would make games any different?

I can totally see 3D glasses-type stuff making someone sick though.

Different anon- it might be the way cameras are handled in games. In 2d games the camera is pretty straight forward but in 3d games the camera is pretty much going all over the place.

While it doesn't make me dizzy I will say I didn't play video games for a long time and when I started up again the 3d cameras were a huge adjustment and in some games I could see how it'd bother someone's vision.

getting sick from FPS is a known phenomenon. i had a friend who had that issue. it was fine until she started turning it into a referendum on why FPS games are for douchebags. i'm sorry you couldn't play doom with the other kids but that doesn't give you license to be a self-important snob, ex-friend!

Well. my mom used to play actiony games on the SNES and stuff (pixel/sprite stuff), and she was really good, but after most games started going the 3D route, she said she couldn't "handle" them anymore. Since she was good at 2D games, I doubt it's just a matter of her sucking more with the turn to 3D. I'm not entirely sure, since it's not like real life 3D freaks her out or anything. She'll still play stuff like Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing (3D games) now, but there's very little action, movements and camera angles and stuff are usually more static and much calmer than in 3D action games.

Plus the OP says they have certain problems with their vision, so it may be something specific that neither you nor I will be able to understand, no matter how much we think about it, because we don't have a way to experience what the OP goes through when they try playing the games.

Did you seriously just ask what the difference between polygons and real life was?

I dunno about the OP, but if I haven't played in a while, 3D games make me feel like someone's just stuck a Magic Eye picture in front of me. Once it clicks and I see the faux 3D image I'm good, but it probably never clicks for some people -- especially people with vision problems.

That would be a sort of interesting study, actually. "What's the correlation between people who can't see the effect in Magic Eye images, and people who can't handle playing 3D games?"
