In my experience, the only BNFs who aren't like that are the reluctant BNFs. The ones who end up being BNFs because a lot of people like what they produce, not because they tried very hard to be popular.

Much like the best moderators I've had on boards I managed were the ones who never asked for the position, and who initially told me they weren't sure they could do the job properly.
All the ones who asked for the job did very little work of actually moderating, and mostly basked in the pride of being mods.

Being in doubt is what keeps you awake and willing to improve.
