Agreed on both points. (Is that a +1, or a +1 +1? a +2?)

There were bits that made me wonder if it was aimed at all folk who care about sensitivity or social issues (cisblood? really?). But once it was clear that Kankri is an obvious sexist asshole, it tipped right into "classic sj hypocrite that simply loves to bandy about all the words (aka: the sjw)".

I don't know if Porrim was supposed to be some kind of FemRA, but I liked that she reads to me as feminist, while also not invalidating things that did happen on their planet when it existed. I'll take a straw-man tumblr sjw over a straw-man feminist anyday tbh.

I think cisblood was *supposed* to be aimed at all that 'transethnic' bullshit, rather than actual transgendered people, but it's not like you can actually clarify that in the text, so it still looks...a little potentially side-eye worthy.

Porrim's total comparative sanity, even though (and partly because) she had her own particular issues that she focused on definitely helped, imo.

cloud_riven: Close-up of an open-mouthed piglet! Is it recoiling? Or side-eyeing? Maybe saying, "HEY YOU TWO SHOULD KISS"? Mystery! (eeeeeeehhhhhh)

I only just checked tumblr to see if Hussie was simply making up words that begin with 'cis', and oh gdi. Here I was giving the benefit of a doubt that nobody actually uses 'cis-ethnic' as an actual thing, and why is it an actual thing. I knew 'transethnic' was there, but omg how the hell is 'cis-ethnic' less offensive to these people.

it's implying actual racial minorities have the privilege of being a racial minoritagosiugvb

Sadly people do - and I've actually run across someone who thinks mixed race and not looking like your ethnicity = trans-ethnic. And, as much as I *want* to say it's a cultural difference there [she's Aussie - I'm American]...I just kind of strongly doubt it since she also openly admits to being racist - and, I quote, 'Racism isn't a problem if you don't care'. Never mind, you know...all the way it effects the people you [general] are being racist against.

tl;dr: Oh, it's a real thing, though some of the people who believe it have very...special takes on things like what ethnicity is, and social justice issues as a whole.

Yeah, I dunno, that "otherblood" and "polyblood" stuff sounded like it was aimed at nonbinary trans people to me. That was the only thing in Kankri's dialog that really bothered me.

Not everything is a satire. Knowing Hussie he probably just thought it'd be funny to take the whole "identifying as _____" idea and apply it to troll blood castes.

Really? Huhn. I immediately associated that part with Otherkin who think they're foxdragons and soulbounding head-multiples people, or whatever.

Then again, that's the problem with the joke: neither of us are right. He's talking about issues that don't exist, and we all have our own, legitimate reactions to that. And if people dealing with serious gender issues feel insulted, then - well, I don't know *how* Kankri could have been handled more carefully in the context of that update, but I hope as his character gets explored more, it becomes more clear that he's not their to mock actual trans and nonbinary people, because I hoped Hussie was better than that, and it would suck if he was.

Yes, exactly. I think of Kankri as a SJW, who likes using terms and making a show about ~caring~ and ~being so sensitive~ while actually harboring equally problematic attitudes. On the other hand, the Sufferer is the Kankri that actually got off his butt, preached equality because he meant it and not because it looked cool. Because, in fact, it didn't look cool, and he ended up dying over it.

...So, basically, the Sufferer is Superior-Kankri.

In a way, I think all the ancestors are basically what the alpha-trolls wished they could be.

I'm not so sure about that. For one, it seems that Latula is pretty much who she wanted to be. And that'd say some bad things about Aranea.

Edit: And no way Captor wants to be a meat puppet for the Batterwitch.

Well, I was more referring to how Aranae wanted to be more outspoken and adventurous... Meenah wanted control and respect... and Kankri wanted social change.

It just, uh, went a lot further than that.

Okay, how about Porrim? She wanted to challenge her society's gender roles but... it seems the Dolorosa was a Hive Queen raiser until she found the Sufferer. I suppose you could say that she also has a maternal streak with Kankri that got satisfied, or that she rebelled against her society in general, but those seem a little shaky to me. And it worked differently for the kids.
