Lol Mark and Lexie from Grey's Anatomy. Badly handled.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

Okay so they get together in Season 5 after lots of sexual tension and fun flirting. They have to keep it secret for reasons, but it eventually comes out and drama ensues but Mark and Lexie are super cute and stay tight through it all. They're actually one of the more sane couples on the show, very adorable, lots of funny and heartfelt moments. The writers decide to throw in a baby or two to disrupt this (not even THEIR babies--just other babies manage to break them up) and it goes back and forth with lots of will-they-won't-they, but it's so obvious they're endgame (and the writers admitted as much). They take turns pining after each other while the other is in a committed relationship, and it's really getting annoying as it's been going on for longer than they were ever together and it's bloody fucking obvious they're still in love with each other.

AND THEN LEXIE GETS CRUSHED BY A PLANE.

So yeah after years of pining for each other she gets crushed by the tail end of a fucking plane, and his heart literally breaks (and they have to do some emergency procedure to drain the blood from his chest but it looks like he's gonna die too) and then it's like FUCK YOU WRITERS. The head writer said "we had other plans for them, they were gonna be happily ever after and get married and have super attractive children and become great surgeons but lol i killed them"

They had the most depressing goodbye scene, where he finally admits he still loves her (she'd just given him an epic love speech a couple of episodes earlier) and he tells her she can't die because they're meant to be, and she dies smiling thinking about that and it's like jesus fucking christ rip my heart out after making me hope. god damn.

Haha, stuff like this is why I bailed from watching Grey's Anatomy and why I'm worried I'm so in love with Rhimes' new show Scandal, because it'll probably go this soapy at some point as well.
