Oh, I should add that The Doctor Who Forum closed in 2009, and there wasn't a single replacement. Gallifrey Base is run by many of the same people who ran The Doctor Who Forum, and took a lot of the community (but not all of it), so the fandom is somewhat more scattered than it once was.

There are always some in the established fandom who wail that all the new stuff is awful, but frankly I don't think they remember what the old stuff is actually like.

That's so cool! I find fandoms of shows just as interesting as the show itself sometimes. It's like controlled chaos. So many people who love the same thing but at the same time they may or may not get along. Everyone interpreting the source material differently. I suppose with a group so huge it would be difficult for any sort of movement to amass. This would simple be because no matter how many people you get to your side there are even more who are ambivalent to your cause or actively against it.
