Um...you're sweet, but that's not how it works.

Okay...I just learned something. Apparently head injuries can *inreased risk* of developing Parkinson's, but no indication that it causes it.

I'm sure that they were careful with Michael and that he wasn't hurt at that moment anyway. But if you can't watch it, not much you can do.

I have no idea if this actually happened for him, but if something increases the risk of developing a certain disorder, doesn't it logically follow that, for some people, that thing will cause them to develop the disorder?

Nope. He actually had symptoms (and I believer was already diagnosed?) before this movie.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-10 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
SA

I just went and looked and apparently he was diagnosed in '91 with early signs in '90. But I distinctly remember watching some documentary where he said he actually started showing small signs during Family Ties, which was '82-'89. Back to the Future III was 1990.

Since the other comments already covered the Parkinson issue, I'd just like to say that the almost hanging is from Part III not II.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha you beat me to it!

I came here to say this too. >.>

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I just stopped by to say that I love your icon. DW, Muse and BttF forever.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the Old West one. (For a second there, I was wracking my brain wondering where there was a hanging scene in the 2012 part of the alternate 1985 part.)

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
wasn't it 2015?

But yeah, I was just as confused for a minute there.

Hey, kinda surprised me to see a BTTF secret- I recently got into the fandom (like, a week ago) and hadn't seen any before, so...Well, I too like everything about the films, but I'm not sure that's how Parkinson works...? :-?

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
"got his Parkinson"

Actually, when I was younger, I thought it was the moment he hit his head on the street when he fell out of the tree in part 1. That sound of head on asphalt makes me cringe even today.

You know he didn't actually fall out of the tree and hit the ground like that, right? It was a stunt.

Michael J. Fox doesn't fall from a tree.
Crispin Glover does.

Jesus guys, have any of you ever seen those movies?!

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Def not how he got his Parkinson's.

But he did almost die filming that hanging scene, because the rope was strangling him and he passed out. - Think that's in his book if I remember correctly. Also, on the internets.

Yay! Someone else who read it!

Dark mistaken secret.

Can we instead talk about the fact that MJF got a brand new comedy that already got picked up for a season, and it's airing next year? So happy.

On the one hand: AH! BACK TO THE FUTURE SECRET!
On the other hand: damn stupid Back to the Future secret.
