I've been in fandom for... 20 years? And I'm actually MORE squicked out by RPF than I used to be. Heck, I even wrote some in my early days in fandom. Now? Nope, not gonna do it.

That's really interesting. Do you know what changed for you over time? Was it specific fandoms or the idea in general? (Also, if you don't mind, what were people writing RPF of 20 years ago? That's before my time.)

I'm not really sure what changed. Some of it is more of a realization of celebs as real people who have their own... autonomy?

As for what: Anne Rice's Vamp Chronicles. This was not long after the movie was made, so it involved the actors from that.

i'm the same. i was huge into rpf; i think my first fandom was the backstreet boys even. and i was all over lotrps. but now it squicks the hell out of me. mostly i think it's the embarrassment factor. like, i was fine with rpf as long as nobody knew about it. but so many actors/musicians etc not only know about it, fans are literally shoving stuff in their faces. it's just so awful and embarrassing, so whenever i even think about reading rpf it makes my skin crawl.

right now i'm really into merlin, and seriously i can't even watch interviews with the actors because i know rpf is big in that fandom and i know at some point someone will ask them about it (or probably already have....I DON'T WANT TO KNOW) and i will die a little bit inside if i have to see that.
