Awesome!

Yeah, they're assuredly a Korean treat. Well. Like a lot of new stuff in Korea, they're an adaptation of cuisine brought over from American soldiers in the Korean war. So it's like... Army chow gourmet? It's pretty hilarious and awful and good at the same time. They're not terribly great tasting, but you could get used to them.

TBH, not sure if a Korean guy would eat one after drinking soju. I don't know much about your fic, but here's a little advice, from my observations in my time in Korea.

Drinking in Korea is almost ALWAYS a communal thing, way more so than even in America. If you're a guy who has ANY group of friends, chances are you're going to be drinking a lot. Drinking is almost always done in conjunction with eating food, and young guys tend toward fried chicken joints and pizza places. Like I'm not even joking, go to any university town, and it's mostly full of bars and fried chicken joints.

Their bars are more like pubs, in that they serve food a lot of the times. (Their clubs, on the other hand are mostly just booze.) But it's not like in America where you go get drinks, and then go get food/more drinks. So what I'm saying is that chances are he'll probably already have food along with his drinks, and that's usually with friends.

In fact, most bars/eateries in Seoul won't take just one person walking in-- you have to be in a pair or in a group. I really don't know why this is, it just is.

So eating a sand after a soju is... I dunno, a little eccentric sounding? He'd more likely eat it for breakfast, or share it with friends for a snack during the morning/day, but nor in conjunction with booze.

(I'm not an insider on Korean culture, but these are things I've observed as things and had others explain to me while I was there.)

Also have to add that mostly only homeless old men drink soju alone. Sad, but true. They tend to wander down to places like Family Mart and the 7-11 and get booze/snacks. They don't have a lot of money, so...

Hmm, you've certainly given me a lot to think about! The character is in the bar 'cause he's throwing a hissy fit and moping, so I think I can get a pass on it not being a communal thing. Plus, I quite like the parallel with how it's usually down-and-out people who drinks soju alone (even if it is horribly sad in RL). But I'll definitely have to think about all the rest -- even if the fandom has a pair of kangaroos who get a divorce (actual canon, no lie!), I'd like to keep it as realistic as possible.

Again, a million thanks! Not only is this extremely helpful, but it's also really interesting.
