Who could say no to sleepy puppies? Also, a weirdly shaped tiny spider.

Now I couldn't leave out dogs, after yesterday's post. I'm quite fond of them myself, so... sleepy puppy gif time, it is!

More orb weavers!

source

This one is from the Gasteracantha genus, and is also a spiny-backed orb weaver, as opposed to the very large spindly ones you might be more familiar with. This particular tiny thing is Gasteracantha sacerdotalis, and it lives in New Guinea, Queensland and New Caledonia.

Aw, I love the dog pulling the blanket off the top of the cage and curling up in it. So cute.

I've seen spiders that look like that before and they weirded me out!

Ahhh the floppy-eared one on the vent <3

And that's a rather pretty spider.

One of those puppies looks like polar bear cub, the five toes on the paw also don't help its cause, but they're all cute regardless.

Warning: Touched A Spider :-)

I just wanted to let you know that the kids and I all got to have a tarantula on our hand at a demo a little while ago (red-haired, I think he said? A species noted for its docility even in the wild, apparently) and it was awesome! It was much, much lighter than I expected (about the weight of a ping pong ball, I'd say) and it had SUCH soft fluffy feet! Like, kitten-soft, only actually softer. It was incredible. I'd expected it to be bristly but it was like having a weird multi-legged alien kitty on my palm. Very cool and now I kind of want one as a pet.

Also both the kids (7 and 3.5) quite happily let the spider be on them too with no hesitation, and thought it was very neat too, which I thought was pretty awesome too.

I was a bit hesitant because, JESUS HUGE SPIDER lol, but you guys, if you ever get the chance, give it a try if you can. She was so soft and gentle that it pretty much wiped out 98% of any discomfort I've had with spiders over the years. :D

If it's a tarantula noted for its docility, I'm almost certain that it was a Chilean rose tarantula that you handled! They are the introductory tarantula pet breed, both because they're definitely rather striking and also because they're very gentle and- unlike many other tarantula species- not very skittish at the sight of people and more likely to just tap around slowly on your hands for a bit.

I think you're probably right; that does sound very familiar. And yes, that's all it did.

Alien kitties FTW!! XD
