See, I would accept that explanation if I got that from the movie. At all. But I didn't. I only thought about it when I was reading a bunch of fan theories. So I'm just going to go on record and say that's the movie's fault. I am taking no blame for not getting that. Because I can. Don't judge me.

The scene you mentioned in the Hulk movie could also mean he learned to control his heart rate. And the Avenger line could be retconning that. We're not really gonna know until the next movie.

Very good point.

The movie was flawed in not really telling the audience anything or stating facts. Everything seemed so up in the air. But I guess that's what you get with jumbled rewrites. :(

Norton allegedly fought with the writers and producers back and forth about a lot of details.

That's why he wasn't in Avengers. Nobody fucks with Whedon's writing, and Norton demands script control in all his contracts.

In his Reddit AMA Whedon almost flat out admitted that's why he didn't cast Norton.

Wow, well, whatever. I like Mark and his Hulk better so I'm glad how it worked out. I only wish Mark would get his own Hulk movies.
