NS1

Nah, I totally agree. Just look at my icon. Look at that boy cry.

He's the king of OH RIGHT IN THE FEELS.

+1

He hurts so, so pretty. And it helps that, unlike many of fandom's chosen woobies,* he generally really, truly does mean well. He's just ... pretty bad at doing the right thing. And he's chosen the wrong mentor. So much the wrong mentor.

I literally used to hate the phrase "all the feels," and then I discovered Jesse, and realized nothing else described how he makes me feel.

Oh god Jesse I love you. [/crazy fangirl]

*(and I say this as a fan of many of them)

I actually hate "in the feels/all the feels" and that's probably the first time I've ever used that phrase, but I couldn't think of a more condensed way to say, "he is the king of making me cry pretty much every time he cries."

And he cries so much.

Like holy crap I have so many crying icons.

And I actually deleted a few recently.

I'd respond to you with a smiling icon BUT I DON'T HAVE ANY. (That's not true, I have like... two, but this is more entertaining.)

Your icons are making me cry on the inside right now. JESSSSSEEEEEEEE.

-- May be a little drunk. This thread is giving me so many feeeelings.

Here, have this one, he's not... oh, yeah, um.

Re: NS1

THAT SCENE.

Zero words, but so many emotions on his face. Even in your icon where you can only see one eyes there's so much emotion. God damn, Aaron Paul. So talented.

Re: NS1

[personal profile] yeahscience 2012-09-15 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
How about this one, this one makes me feel things and I CAN'T EVEN SEE HIS FACE.

Re: NS1

RIGHT IN THE FEELS.

(I might also be going through some hardcore BB withdrawal.)

Oh my god this thread.

Seriously though OP you are spot on. Every time this boy cries I just whisper "run" softly to my screen. "Run you poor, hopeless, beautiful kid you." Breaking Bad is definitely the closest for me that all of that "AHHHhhh my feeeeelsss" hyperbole stuff we all like to use is actually accurate.
yeahscience: ([4-5] please say yes)

Re: NS1

[personal profile] yeahscience 2012-09-15 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
But he has Mr. White to think about, anon.

Re: NS1

(Anonymous) 2012-09-15 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
I like Jesse Pinkman too but I disagree with "he truly means well". From the very first episode we see he's been dealing in meth for the money and has tried to get people addicted to it. Just because he's less bad than Walter White doesn't mean he's a good person.

Re: NS1

[personal profile] yeahscience 2012-09-15 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
Mm... I agree and I don't. He definitely has not always done the right thing -- he's done some pretty despicable things that he may never truly be able to redeem himself for. At the same time, the Jesse we see in season one is very, very different from the Jesse of season two or three or four, and obviously even more removed from the Jesse we saw at the end of the last episode.

I think it was Aaron Paul himself who said that basically, Jesse is a guy who honestly does want to do the right thing most of the time... he just does a terrible job of knowing what the right thing is. That's pretty much my take on it.

Re: NS1

(Anonymous) 2012-09-15 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
To me he's stood aside too long while letting all this stuff happen to be counted as trying to do the right thing. Early on he's enjoyed his line of work and wanted to be a player, and even later on he loved working beside Mike. He certainly has a lot of regret but I don't foresee a happy ending for him.
yeahscience: ([1-3] sunlit)

Re: NS1

[personal profile] yeahscience 2012-09-15 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know if you can really count Mike, though? Like, I'm not trying to absolve him of the crimes he did commit, he's done some terrible things. But with Mike, he never saw that side of it. He never saw Mike murder anyone in cold blood. Similarly, when he enjoyed himself at the beginning, it was before he really saw the dark side of things. By season two, he's spending a lot of time being very unhappy, and by season three he's clearly only going back to it because he doesn't know what else to do with himself.

I think you could better argue that he was flawed in having loyalty to Gus, which is like, he knew exactly how bad Gus was and was still getting swayed over to him. Or selling at the NA meetings, which I think is probably the most unjustifiably terrible thing he does in the series.

Re: NS1

[personal profile] agnes_bean 2012-09-15 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
That's fair. I guess I was just comparing him in my head with many of that actually villainous characters who have been woobified over the years (Loki being a prime example right now; I'm also a OUAT fan, and both Rumplestiltskin and Regina can sometimes fall into that catagory). But yeah, there's no question that he chose the game himself and has done some pretty shitty things of his own volition (selling at NA meetings = the worst).

But I also agree with [personal profile] yeahscience that Jesse DOES want to do the right thing most of the time (esp. post S1). And certainly he has always had lines he really did NOT want to cross, even at his lowest points. But until this season he absolutely lacked the strength of will and self confidence to not be swayed by the people around him.
