(Anonymous) 2012-09-15 05:56 am (UTC)(link)Also, the situation in Pompeii is different. The volcanic ash suffocated the people as much as it buried them alive in rock/ash coffins. I imagine once the dust fell, it didn't move. On the other hand lava flows so it should be able to exort enough lateral force to disturb the shape of the blackened carbon chars of human remains. Maybe. Anyone know the tensile strength of impure carbon?

Anyway, it wouldn't be pure or even impure sole carbon on human remains. Cells are much more complex than that. Also, again lava moves very little and settles in one spot, so I don't think moving the human remains would be a problem.
