I took a private SAT prep class for the general math/verbal/writing SAT (this was around 2 years after the writing section was introduced), and did a bunch of practice tests. I also learned a bunch of helpful stuff on how the multiple-choice format factors into the math section. I couldn't tell you what at this late date, but it was helpful- I'm dyscalculic and just all-around bad at math of all kinds.

I didn't take any prep classes for the SAT subject tests- I was in the AP classes for some of them, and others were just my strong subjects. We had some SAT and AP prep books for US and World History from when my older siblings took those, but they weren't as crucial as prep for the general SAT.
