Lol, they're not the ones whining.

Get your head out of your own ass.

Yeah, you do seem pretty butthurt.

Haha, what, you are ridiculous. Steve is just a 4chan meme/joke.

Hmm. I thought Bathing With Eradicons was a pretty popular fic, and I've definitely seen spinoff prompts on the kink meme, though I'm not sure how often they get filled. I'd say the versions of Steve I find whiny are more a Tumblr thing, though. Not sure if that's the same crew.

Never been on 4chan, personally.

That's cool! Even if it's just for yourself, sometimes that's enough to satisfy the plot bunny. :) I mean, I do a lot of that in RP, with just two friends that I write with, so we are effectively writing massive crossover fic for only each other. I just keep ending up with ideas outside of it, in fandoms they don't know...

I hope you can get what you want finished with your story! Good luck with it!

They don't want to have a sudden face full of porn in the middle of their novel

errr, I don't recall any instances of a "face full of porn" in any of the Stephen King, Neal Stephenson, or Fran Herbert books I've read....but then again, I've read quite a few "erotica" books/fics in my day (being an old person in their 30s), so I suppose my definition of "porn" might be a bit different than younger peoples? Hmm.

Also, my friends love to talk about who is "obviously fucking" who in these YA novels they love so much (they even brought up rape several times) so I don't think that this is an issue that they're concerned with when choosing YA over other books, though I can see why it might be something others would like about YA or Teen books, and if so that's great. No harm in that.

OP, I guaran-damn-tee that there are some nice older ladies who will happily help you onto this path. Blakes 7 had a *huge* fandom back in the day through zines, and a bunch of that stuff is likely online now.

I don't know how long she's been modelling but she looks like she's already got anorexia.

That's okay, OP. If the fandom isn't very active now, it might be soon enough. Syfy cues up US remake

(Anonymous) 2012-09-17 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
It is your own problem. Don't look at something someone else has and complain about it. You want, it? Plan something yourselves instead of shouting 'Americunt' like an ignorant brat.

You sound like someone who is butthurt because they were not invited to a party even though they knew nobody there in the first place.

I've used tildes for years to indicate quoting a previous post, and just got jumped on for it recently because I was being 'snide' about what the previous poster said. (Whoops, I mean ~snide~.)

Eh. The actor has naturally curly hair. They had to shellac it down. No biggie.

I loved it too! I was really surprised by how much, because I was really skeptical at first. They're close to tying with RDJ and Jude Law as my favourite Holmes and Watson. Fingerscrossed it continues to be awesome.

I like this comment. Everybody on that show is some stripe of horrible (excepting Troy, maybe, but I've been rewatching s1 and he was kind of a dick then), that's why they're such good, enjoyable characters.

Too late. They like to argue back and forth on his looks. Pretty soon, he'll be Benedict Cumbersnatch 2.0

All of this. Remus probably also had that whole werewolf thing preventing him from studying half of the time. I really doubt most of the teachers were particularly forgiving about it given the supposed attitudes towards werewolves that Lupin mentions in PoA and OotP and DH (but we never see because everyone who is in the Order and isn't Snape doesn't care at all that he turns into a raging murder-beast once a month).

The damage has already begun. Every time I see a "WHITE PEOPLE" type comment, I just roll my eyes and don't bother caring about what they have to say. I used to think it was just trolls doing this shit, but a lot of people truly believe that the "DIE CIS SCUM" is actually going to bring about positive change.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-17 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
that's why I have all three versions, because they're all flawed in some way but they each have strengths too. the Paltrow one is the only one where i really felt like she was friends with Harriet, and the it has my favourite Mr. Knightly confession. I liked JLM's wry vulnerability, and Mark Strong's strength and steadiness (and eyesssss).

having a variety of adaptations is so fun! bringing us around ot the initial topic. XD having multiple versions doesn't make any of them less valid, really.

Re: Fiction written for adults?

[personal profile] zserb 2012-09-17 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
What I’ve read and liked recently (besides the YA books) (because of very different reasons (admittedly one of them being escapism)) in alphabetical order:

Bourdain, Anthony: Kitchen Confidential (non-fiction, autobiographical book about chefs)
Camilleri, Andrea: the Montalbano-series (Italian (Sicilian) crime novels)
Eco, Umberto: Baudolino (It’s easier if you have your history books with you, but still fun if you haven’t.)
Fforde, Jasper: The Eyre Affair
Fowler, Karen Joy: The Jane Austen Book Club (A book *not* exactly about Austen’s novels. I was hungry for derivative works at the time, and this was what I’ve found. Now I know how to search better.)
le Carré, John: The Constant Gardener (So… this one I’ve read for the romance.) (The first ever book I’ve read in English. Yay.)
Lee, Harper: To Kill a Mockingbird
Lethem, Jonathan: Motherless Brooklyn (That was a huge surprise for me.)
Lindsay, Jeff: Darkly Dreaming Dexter (Only the first book I’d recommend from the series.)
Pratchett, Terry: Discworld-series
Priest, Christopher: The Prestige
Rákos, Petr: Korvína čili Kniha o havranech (I doubt it’s been published in English; a Czech book *not* exactly about crows.)
Shaffer, Marry Ann & Barrows, Annie: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (So the end is a bit cheesy, but it’s written in epistolary format, and it’s about books, and it succeeded to make me cry, so I still recommend it to anyone who cares.)
Stoppard, Tom: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead (So it’s not a novel but a play, but it’s different enough from the movie.)
Swann, Leonie: Glennkill (Three Bags Full) (A german crime novel *not* exactly about… sheep.)
Wass Albert: Elvész a nyom (The Tail Perishes) (Hungarian novel about faith… or not. It’s an interesting reading experience, liking the way the story is told and at the same time, hating the political connotations it evokes.)
Werber, Bernard: Les Fourmis (The Ants) (the first part of the trilogy) (A French sci-fi *not* exactly about ants.) (Yep, I’m sensing a pattern. Still not listing Akif Pirinçci’s “Felidae” (German crime novel with cats) here, I’ve read that book too long ago.)

That’s all? Ow. I think I have to check my bookshelf.
