Although, at least they aren't just going off the game's Wikipedia page? There are just some things that can't be accurately construed through a Wiki profile, imho (although I'm sure someone could prove me wrong on that point).

basically, don't not know basic facts or have stupid theories/ask stupid questions, and nobody has to know!

(Anonymous) 2012-09-16 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)I'm heavy into the Mass Effect fandom and I've seen plenty who've played through who held stupid theories and asked stupid questions.
Playing the game isn't bullet-proof against being a dumbass.
And for as long as I've been in fandom, I've seen people who watch a show and still managed to be so OOC for characters it's painful. So who's going to really know if someone's played the fucking game or not?
You just like living in your ego-wanking world that YOU PLAYED THE GAME WOOOO!
get over it.

Why stop with just the games?
Is it really so elitist to expect that people who are fans of something would follow the source material?
I'll judge the other dumb assess too. Just for different reasons!

(Anonymous) 2012-09-17 12:02 am (UTC)(link)This makes absolutely no sense, to me.
Why is there so much "You must have followed [x] to enter here." shit in fandom? What does it accomplish?
Just correct people when they're wrong, and leave it at that.

Edit: unless they are actually there to ask about it. That's different.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-16 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)I'm old school anime fan and when I saw this happening in Gundam Wing I was just GAH! It was clear pretty quickly they based their knowledge of the series from fanon in fanfic.
Drove me NUTS. They were impossible to have any kind of meaningful discussion with about the show.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-17 09:05 am (UTC)(link)A lot of games on Steam go on sale for really cheap prices - though if you're only talking about console games, I understand your point as it is an expensive hobby.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-17 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)not everyone has unlimited access to fast downloads, fuckwit. some people are stuck in the middle of fucking nowhere with slow-ass connections and very limited bandwidth caps.
like, me, for instance. I'm stuck in the back end of nowhere and have no choice but to use satellite. It's slow as fuck and unless I'm willing to pay $130/month for more than 500mb/day bandwidth limit (and that's not a bundle of cable tv, phone and internet. that's JUST internet) I'm screwed.
so no, it's not as easy as getting steam and getting games for cheap. there's still the 9GIG download part that some can't handle.
