It's called the Romance genre. ;)

I would agree there's a lot of bad fanfiction. I'm just saying it's not bad *because* it's fanfiction or that all fanfiction is bad. Part of it is accessibility. The only reason is probably doesn't feel as overwhelming as fanfic is because bookstores need to pack what sells (though arguably that doesn't mean quality) but it does thin the herd somewhat (slightly. Yes, I struggle to find contemp authors I enjoy. I have them, but they are few). There's nothing to do that for self-publish or fanfic other than word of mouth. I'm just saying that to write it all off is a little short-sighted and naive. My favorite is when I've found published authors (who write wonderful books) who also happen to write fanfic in a favorite fandom... ;) The treat is doubly mine then.

I'm just saying, don't judge a book (or a wordfile) by its cover ;)
