does anyone ever fill requests on kinkmemes for fics that they would probably not read? I always seem to write certain types of fics which aren't things I'd go looking for to read. It seems weird.

I actually filled three prompts that were completely irrelevant to my interests just last night!

I only ever do that on old or second/third round prompts though.

They tend to be easier to write because I'm less emotionally involved and pressured to get right. They also tend to be received more enthusiastically, of course that could just be excitement for getting an ignored prompt filled.

Yeah. Sometimes it's a "This sounds completely stupid. Why would you request that, it's so implausible and boring. Oh fuck. challenge accepted." moment.

Most of the time it's only because I think it might make someone's day to have their fill filled.

Aw that's a sweet reason to fill a request.

I've only filled a kmeme once and it's not one I would read. Then again, the way I chose it was:

Step 1) Randomly click a page
Step 2) Scroll until you find something you think you can write that won't be too long.

Took me two seconds to find it. *shrug*

I've written fills about characters I liked with kinks I wasn't interested in, and kinks of mine about characters I didn't care about, so I might very well have scrolled by my own fills as a reader.

One or twice. There was, once upon a time, a kinks that you don't feel comfortable requesting on a regular kink meme kink meme, and I felt kind of bad for the people who never got their favorite kink written, and if it was, it was never tagged or searchable.

And occasionally I write stuff only tangentially linked to my interests because I'm curious about how I could make it happen. Rare-pairs, mostly.

This actually keeps happening to me. I tend to read pretty much every prompt on the kinkmemes I follow, and even if I'm not interested in the kink or trope it involves, occasionally my brain latches onto the scenario and starts trying to figure out how it would work... and then I end up writing fills for prompts that generally aren't my cup of tea. It's happened to me at least three or four times, with a variety of types of prompts: non-powered AU, sex pollen, possession!non-con...

And you're right, anon. It seems weird to me too, every time it happens.

Yes. Sometimes a prompt just grabs you and sometimes it's about the challenge.

I have the opposite problem:

Writing kmeme prompts that I want to fill myself.

The prompts that I always want to fill but never will because I'm so slow/new to kmemes are stuff along the lines of what I'd want to write anyway. /unoriginal

I tend to only read gen or crack, but I always write fills for the dirty, the dark and the sex-filled.

I don't know if it's just me, but I simply just like writing out prompts. Not fills, but the prompts themselves.

I will just be hit by an idea and I enjoy writing it down and basically just sharing it with people. I don't care overly if they get filled or not - but I do really like if my post starts a discussion thread or people talk about liking the prompt/idea behind the prompt.

I've done it for a few kinks that aren't mine and subjects I normally wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole because I wanted a chance to stretch my writing skills and see if I could pull it off. The ones I can think of off the top of my head have included a character study for a pedophile, necrophilia (of a sorts) and a short piece in the alpha/beta/omega domain.
