I think we were a bit. Or rather, we were supposed to agree with Rose and the Doctor at the time. And then when the Torchwood two-parter happens at the end with them getting separated, you realize that this all happened as a direct result of their smugness in that episode. The whole reason they were separated was because they were too smug and uncaring of the people around them, feeling sad but still cracking jokes in the face of death and distraction.

So in that sense, Tooth and Claw is one of my favorite episodes in hind sight.

Meh, it's one thing to be OMG! Werewolf! Koool! when it first happens, but when you're still that way after one of the guys trying to save you gets viciously shredded before your very eyes and still be like that, you go from 'smug' to 'outright sociopathic'.

They weren't sad until Victoria called them on it.

It's funny, David has said that was the episode where he found the character of the Doctor, but I think that was the episode when they were the most OOC. They weren't as callous before the episode, nor after, so it was like RTD or whoever didn't trust that Doctor and Rose were bad enough, so he exaggerated the bad behaviour.
