You aren't obligated to like something, and if you aren't interested you shouldn't have to watch in the first place (unless you choose too, of course). To accurately judge whatever it is then...yea, you do have to check it out, but again, if you aren't interested it might be a waste of time and there's no use forcing yourself.

Your friends should know better than to be so pushy about it, because that will only make you hate it more. So far it sounds like you've been nice about it, listening to them talk about their fandom when they wish too, so they should respect your decision not to watch (and your opinion too, of course).
