Has anyone watched this really bad telemovie...

(Anonymous) 2012-09-20 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
OK, so I love Ursula K. LeGuin's Earthsea Trilogy. (The first three books, anyway.)
A couple of years ago for Christmas, my mum got me a movie of it. Of course, I was all: "Holy crap! They've finally made it into a movie like it deserves!"
...aaaand then I watched it.
And it was one of the worst things I've ever watched. God it was awful. It was just fucking terrible. They whitewashed most of the characters, hacked the plot to pieces, and even tried to bandwagon on HARRY POTTER of all things.

F!S:
Has anyone else seen this film?
Do you know who's responsible for it so I can find them and remove their spleen?
Have you ever had your favourite book/game/whatever made into a bad movie?

Oh, that. I think I made it 30 minutes in.

I'm having trouble thinking of favorite books or games that were made into bad movies.

I was going to say 'Battleship,' it's not really a 'favorite game,' and no one expected it to be good and it ended up being pretty hilarious, so it gets a pass.

Wait, is this the movie that premiered on Hallmark's "Fantasy Months"? I distinctly remember watching the commercials between Dinotopia and The Tenth Kingdom, and I was sure that I watched the ending part when there was nothing else to watch in TV...

A Wrinkle in Time was given a tv movie once. Dark days, man, dark days.

Oh no, really? I would kill for a good adaption of it, but a bad one ... shudder.

Disney made it as a tv movie on ABC family. That should tell you all you need to know about it.

I love A Wrinkle in Time too :(

I didn't know that happened either. I think I'm going to sit here and pretend it didn't.

Oh god, I remember that. It was filmed near here and I went to watch it and...

Augh. Bad memories.

Curses. Until now I'd actually forgotten about that horrible, horrible thing.

I was really excited for Earthsea until I heard what a cat's breakfast they made of it. Same for The Dark is Rising.

The Dark is Rising. tbh I haven't even seen the movie because they changed so fucking much that I'm pretty sure I just wouldn't be able to handle it. only one actor involved had read and been a fan of the series before she did the movie, and anyone else who read the book while filming seemed to hate it. and supposedly it's not even a good movie to make up for it it sure doesn't sound like a good movie

hell, it took me halfway through the trailer I saw for it and the name of the main character to realize that was what the trailer was for. and even then i thought for sure i'd misheard something.

So. NOPE. can't do it. i prefer to pretend that it doesn't even exist.

It's a dreadful movie. I watched it before I'd read the books and I thought it was horrible even without knowing about all the changes.

The worst adaptions ever are...

The Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry movie.

The Pokemon anime.

And, goes without saying, the Last Airbender.

Hey now, YMMV on the pokemon anime. I thought the D/P seasons were really good (minus ash anyway, though he grew on me).

Is it the game? No. And I prefer them that way.

So...no, I don't think the pokemon anime is one of the worst adaptations ever. :/

Um, okay? I think it's pretty terrible but I never said no one was allowed to disagree.

Try the Miyazaki film? Never read the books, so that one may be just as bad, but I thought it was fun.

Ella Enchanted. One of my favorite books as a kid. I've mostly blocked out all memory of the movie, I was so disappointed by it.

Still not nearly as bad as the botch they made of Lathe of Heaven, tho.
