Does anyone want to form a group online to play a tabletop game over IM(like D&D or whatever you want to play)? mechanosapience and I both would like to do it, but it would be great to have more players!

(No experience necessary because, uh, I've never played before, but mechanosapience has.)

I... might. It would depend on scheduling and level of commitment required. Sometimes I have unexpected last minute obligations but usually I can clear out some time.

I have no experience but I tend to pick things up quick? Be forewarned! I will make bad puns from time to time and I can get a little too enthusiastic about things.

If you get something together and it isn't D&D 4.0, I'd likely participate. I'm versed in D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder (which I might recommend, as it has a very nice wiki).

I'm in! I'm very familiar with D&D 3.5 and a few other, non-D&D systems, and I've played online before.

I might, but I sometimes keep kind of a weird schedule. So I don't know if I could follow a campaign, but one-shots are a yes. It might be good to find out what time zones interested people live in. I'm in Pacific time.

I know D&D 3.5 very well and am still figuring out 4.0 but I can get by. I've never played it online before, but we can figure it out. Would this be purely by IM or Skype or Google chat?

If it's D&D 3.5 or Pathfinder, I'm in! Experienced in both playing and DM-ing for both of those.

Except, uh, timezones. I'm in GMT+8, if it's over Skype or something I'm probably going to have problems.

Hmmmmm maybe? Reading the rulesets and wikis have been on my backlog of things to do, so I'd probably be extra rusty. Also, depends on when games are scheduled.

There's this guy I know who was interested in setting up a newb-friendly game (well, specifically for the queer community, but hey), but it's been months, no one's schedule lines up well to plan it, and no one seems to want to host it at their place, so it's like a dead end when i just want to learn and play already.

so hoping your group kicks off regardless basically ♥

It occurs to me that if time zones/scheduling don't permit playing via IM, there's also the notion of using a forum. It'd take longer for things to happen, but it's an option.

That is an excellent idea OMG. Brilliance! I am very much for this idea, because I am also in the boat of being a busy person.

If you are playing on a forum instead of over IM, I'm interested!

So, it occurs to me that we should figure out timezone/availability to see if IM is possible or if we should use forums for this. I'm GMT-5, and am available afternoons Monday through Friday and my weekends are pretty open. Also, one of us should probably PM the other people who responded.
