I haven't read for leisure in a VERY long time, ever since I started college, but most of my major classes are done now, so I asked some of my fandom friends to rec me some good books.

I just started Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo yesterday. It's a really interesting world that Bardugo's built, and though it's been difficult for me to get absorbed into a book for a while, I'm starting to, especially since I'm just past the first hurdle - where the main character finds out she's a Grisha.

Also, thanks to a secret yesterday, I started (and finished with what's up so far) reading Teahouse. I...don't think I like many of the characters, outside Rory, Claret and, I suppose, Linneus, but it's caught my attention for now. :)

Also-also, as always, fanfic. :)

Oh god, Teahouse. I tried out the first chapter despite really really not liking yaoi manga and... it had pretty much everything I didn't like about yaoi manga going on. When I stopped I decided in my world Claret and Rory burned the place down, Rory going off to work on a farm or something and Claret going off to be generally fabulous. I guess random background maid could survive but ugh everyone else.

This is exactly how I feel! EVERYONE is awful; even Linneus, with his unrequited-but-really-requited romance irks me. There's something...cold about him. I would be okay with Claret and Rory escaping, tbh. Perhaps taking Argent (Atros' servant, who I don't believe speaks, but seems decent?) with them.

...I'm actually not sure why I read it all. Maybe because everyone's so terrible (and I don't mean characterization or anything, because it seems consistent and the art is very pretty, but just them as people) that they're morbidly fascinating?

Oh yeah, Argent might have been the random background servant I was thinking of. Linneus... likes Atros, so there must be something terribly wrong with him. Other than that, I didn't get much of a sense of his personality outside the weird catty rivalry with Lilith.

Last Yuletide when I saw the slew of Teahouse fic I thought fo sho that most of it would be fix-it fic or parody or something but apparently it has sincere fans? I do not understand. Like, I'd totally read a fix it parody where everyone got therapy.

I didn't even know it HAD fic, but that would be a parody I'd read. Hopefully, someone writes it this round. XD
