I have always considered this film to be a beginner's guide to hardcore Asian film. It's over the top but in the most mediocre of ways. The story is forced and the characters are slightly above average, yet people in general love this film. I hate to be offensive because I enjoy the promotion of this type of film, yet I can't help but scoff ever so slightly at your secret. It's a mediocre film, with a mediocre story, the characters are just north of crapola. I feel you are clinging to something that is barely present because of stylization. Please broaden your library to extend into Korean film, you may find there is much more to be found out there for your tastes.

I dunno. I find Ichi the Killer to be the movie that everyone namedrops when they're trying to be all "I'm into obscure Asian creepy shit - aren't I so cool?" so I can see why the fans alone could ruin it for some. Like Bronies.

It doesn't seem like the fans ruined it for that particular anon. It seems, instead, that a) anon doesn't like the film and b) anon has an inflated view of the quality of her/his taste. As such, anon disapproves of people who like the film, because as far as anon is considered, her/his own dislike precludes it being liked by anyone but plebes or followers.
