:-/ I still take issue with spying on people in their homes. Granted, the notebook was explicitly labeled "private," but I feel like American culture has a pretty clearly implied (not to mention legally marked) boundary surrounding a person's home, and I think people have a right to expect that that will be known and respected. I know that if I found some random person lurking in my dumbwaiter and writing down everything I said, I'd feel pretty violated. I can handwave it to some extent because she's very young and (when the story begins) probably hasn't had her privacy violated in a serious way, so she likely doesn't know how upsetting it could be to someone to discover her spying on them; but I don't think I can agree that she's done "nothing wrong." If she were my child I'd definitely want to have a talk with her about it.
