I've been rewatching the first season of Heroes on netflix instant (which is still excellent) and it's making me feel nostalgic for how crazy into the Heroes fandom I used to be. SO I NEED SOMEONE TO TALK TO ME ABOUT HEROES

What are your favorite pairings?

What did the show do that drove you crazy?

What did you hate/love about the fandom? your favorite fic?

I was super into Claude/Peter and Ando/Hiro (and now rewatching it, I have a craving for Nathan/Hiro and Peter/Nathan).

I never really forgave the show for killing off DL though :( (and I hear that Niki died later too? I didn't watch past the second season because the show started ticking me off. BUT I LOVED NIKI). I also liked Charlie a lot (but I hear that Hiro changed the past so she could live in a later season?)

omg I loved Ando/Hiro so hard. They were dorky and completely awesome. It was obvious that they truly loved each other (platonically, anyway. Though I like to think otherwise). That scene where Hiro gives Ando his sword "so you know I'll be back" and then leaves Ando in Japan still gets me a little.

And then Adam was a homewrecker and made me ship him and Hiro.

Mohinder/Sylar (the darker the better) and Mohinder/Matt (GUESS WHAT MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT SEASON 2 WAS).

Almost nothing they did after the first season didn't drive me crazy. Season 3 was at least entertaining in a bad sci-fi sort of way. Season 4 was just sort of boring, and had hardly any Mohinder. :(

...But damn, I still feel like watching it again now.

If this had been submitted anon I would have been convinced I blacked out and wrote this.

I liked Mohinder/Peter, because domestic, that's why. XD It was kind of not a fandom that favored fluff or happy endings in a realistic way very much, so they were my go-to feel-good pairing.

I hated the "time travel will solve everything!" snag the show got into. Not so much in the first season, but even by the second season, time traveling was something that had to come up at least once every episode even when Hiro didn't, and it never helped. Seriously, not once. I also hated the fact that Sylar sort of went from being a villain to being a reformed villain, especially since it came out of almost nowhere and they didn't have time to explore that before the show was cancelled.

Hiro changed the past so Charlie could live, but it didn't work out the way he'd planned either. I actually thought that was one of the better parts of the later seasons, too. :)

Okay. I stopped watching when Adam was dusted, but here are my thoughts.

I was a big Mohinder/Matt + Molly happy family shipper. Like, that was my main ship. I also liked Petrellicest Peter/Nathan, Peter/Clair. Also, Sylar/Anyone, but mostly Sylar/Peter and Sylar/Mohinder. Hmm. And, Adam/Peter and Nathan/Matt. Well, Nathan/Anyone because yum, Adrian Pasdar.

I only lurked around the fandom to read fic, but it was so long ago I can't remember much. I think there was an author called tiptoes(?) who wrote Mohinder/Matt. I liked his/her stuff a lot at the time, but I really can't remember it now.

I hated how much potential the show squandered.

I started watching in the second season and then went back to watch the first during the break before Season 3.

My only real ship was Matt/Mohinder, although I also liked DL/Niki.

Outside of shipping, I loved anything to do with Angela Petrelli, the Bennets as a family, George Takei, and Hiro and Ando. I was really drawn to the various families and their dynamics on this show, which I think might explain my shipping preferences.

Yeah, it really bugged me that they killed DL. It was kind of "off-screen" too, wasn't it? Like he was alive at the end of the season and then at the start of the next, he's dead and it's explained in a flashback. It pissed me off when they killed-off Kato, but at least we got to see a lot of him for a while after that.

Also, I'd when they'd get these awesome guest stars like Nichelle Nichols and Bruce Boxleitner and seemed to set them up to have re-occurring roles that could be really interesting, then they'd hardly use them.

I was never in the fandom nor do I really have any favorite pairings in the show, but I will talk about it.

Heroes is an entertaining enough show, but it definitely suffered after the first seasons because they didn't really have a plan past the first season. I love Adam but the second season has so much in it that is terribad and a lot of fans lost interest that early on, seasons 3 and 4 weren't bad, in fact I thought 4 was getting back to it's roots, but everyone had already ditched the show by then.

I didn't like that they killed off DL either. Niki does die, yes, but her plots were getting horrible and I didn't really feel anything about it, plus they kept her actress around to play women who weren't really Niki but might as well have been Niki.

Outside of not having a plan beyond season 1, that was another problem the show had- they couldn't let go of the actors, so many characters that should have died continually came back even if they had nothing to contribute to the plot. Sometimes I felt like the only characters that died were the ones I didn't want to die, but because they weren't a part of the main cast they were disposable.

There was a lot of talent in the show despite my problems with it though. Sylar was consistently good (even good Sylar was amusing because of how Quinto played it.) And I love love loved Noah. Plus Christopher Eccleston was in the first season, definite plus.
