The thing that really won me over to Doyle was the concept of having the cast do double-duty as the orchestra. You've got to have some pipes on you already to be in a Sondheim play, but to also play an instrument at a performance level means the production's got to have amazing talent. Seeing Sweeney Todd was the reason I went to see Company, and it's easily become one of my favorite plays of all time.

Oh, absolutely! The actors really proved themselves in that by not only singing a difficult score, but playing it as well (I'd probably breakdown if I had to do both - just singing Sondheim can be a task!)

I remember the Doyle cast of Company did a sort of tongue-in-cheek number for the BCEFA Easter Bonnet competition that year in which they sang about how, with Doyle, you had to be a quadruple threat now!

/Totally okay with OT gushing if it deals with Sondheim - I have so many feelings about him!
