Well, possible spurs. Maybe? There aren't any on Link's character model or art, but instead of carrots, they have little spur symbols... I guess that's what they were trying to get across? Maybe they're attached to the stirrups...

(OoT Link, I've noticed, doesn't even have stirrups. Or a bridle and reins. And yet can do jumps, gallop, and not even hold on to the saddle in order to use the bow. And he's the one who HASN'T grown up around horses!)

Yeah I always felt weird about that too, I also feel weird about leaving Epona behind for forever. Like in TP when you stop really needed a horse because you can pretty much teleport anywhere.

And there's poor lonely Epona sitting around Kakariko village, just waiting.

Link you treat your horse terribly :/

(But at the same time I prefer Zelda games that have Epona in them.)
