Question about Betas

(Anonymous) 2012-09-25 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Once a Beta goes over your work and you fix up your fic do you send it back to them for a second round or no?

Re: Question about Betas

I suppose it would depended on how big/in depth the beta's comments were. If it was just a bunch of "hey, you are using the wrong word here, or maybe this sentence would flow better if...", you know, small stuff, I wouldn't. If the comments were more about how a character's voice wasn't coming across as right or having to do with the plot and stuff, I'd want them to have another look at it.

Thank you for the feedback. This was what I was wondering about.

I only have beta readers when doing Yuletide (or some other challenge that requires it), but no; I've never done that. But if you feel your story would benefit from it, and you're comfortable enough with your beta to ask her/him to go over it again, you should go ahead though! Don't worry about other people's habits, and just do what is right for you :)

Thank you. I'll really take what you said into consideration.

You're more than welcome! Best of luck with your story, I'm certain it'll turn out great ♡

If you want to. Ask your Beta first, preferably when you send it the first time.

We're kind of in the middle right now. I don't want to put her out but I'll use this for next time. Thank you.

Depends on the work. If there are major plot points that need working out, I resend it after I work it out.

If it's just commentary on punctuation and wording, nope.

Okay, thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

I misread this and totally thought you were talking about beta's from A/B/O verse and was confused for a bit

I don't, no, but you might if you had some questions about 'why do you think this needs changed' or what have you. As a rule, my beta does all the fixes with me with the work open on our desktops and her putting her changes in Yahoo Messenger chat, so i can ask her/challenge her on stuff right then, and when we're done, we're done.

If they have mentioned plot/characterization level issues, then yes. I want to be sure that I have adequately fixed the issues. If it's just typos and awkward line notations and stuff, then nah.
