The story I heard was he was reading bad slashfic to the crowd and the author was in the audience and it embarrassed the shit out of her.

ITA about feeling uncomfortable about being too involved in a fandom (that goes for anyone, not just the actors). For some reason with SPN, it seems like some of the fans feel some sense of ownership over the actors, and it's creepy as hell. It's one thing to like a character or think that IRL an actor is a good person. But it's another thing to think that they owe you something, or that you have some sort of "friendship".

From what I have seen Misha has kind of chilled out his trolling. But now he's got a couple kids and probably doesn't want to leave an open invite to the crazy anymore.

I know it's available on the web and so some people will argue that it shouldn't make a difference if the actor of a character from the fic reads it in public, but that's just a big pile of DNW for me. That poor girl. Yes she wrote it, but I imagine she never thought Misha Collins was going to read it at a con, and probably never would've posted it had she known. And don't kids sometimes go to cons, too? IDK the rules for that specific con, but I know in the past that kids have went to SPN cons because I've seen the videos. For him to do that was not cool, imo.

I've noticed, yea. SPN isn't the only fandom that has this problem, but it tends to be the one everyone expects it from, and one of the worst examples.

If that's the case, good for him! I bet some of the fanbase isn't pleased with that, but it's probably best for him and his family.
