It's fun to ramble!

Yeah, I always got that feeling too. ): Like the first arc was really about good vs evil and who was which and what would win and then the second arc everybody had like... all these RANDOM ulterior motives for catching Kira other than "it's the right thing to do/justice will prevail" (like L was) and all the morality-debate of the series (which was what had kept me interested) got completely lost.

I mean Mello was a fascinating character and stuff? But he's just a character, not what I was reading DN for to begin with.

Yeah, I totally agree. I mean, with Mello, it was for avenging L's death. And then with Near, it's just for winning's sake. The second arc completely loses all the morality stuff, and it just gets filled up with "oh yes he did this and now I predict he'll do that", but I still enjoyed it. Probably because I was in love with the characters and the morality debate came second.

Or maybe I'm just biased! But hey, Death Note is good overall. ): One of my favorites. Despite it mindfucking with my head the whole time I was reading it auuugh -dies-

There are like a bagillion theories on it. Many hardcore Mello/Near shippers think it's because he didn't want Near to die but oh man kfdlksf it would take forever to explain what I think I WON'T KEEP YOU HERE ALL DAY

ME TOO IT'S SUCH A MINDFUCK D: I had to read the ending twice to get it and I'M STILL KIND OF CONFUSED AT PARTS. WHO HAD THE DEATH NOTE WHEN WHERE WHY. D:

I'm half convinced the creators got lost too and then were like "screw it we can have Light do another magically pull the DN from his ass trick later and everyone will just think the plot is too complicated for them"

I mean hey, it'd work...

Having the Death Note was like hot potato, I swear.

What I didn't get was why didn't anybody like just take pages out of the Death Note and put them in a normal 3-ring binder or something adfgkadhfgakjfd Light could've been all "oh yeah taking notes for the police investigation, listing important people" and just owned everybody wtf afdgkadhfgakdjf but NO THE DEATH NOTE HAD TO BE BLACK AND OBVIOUS AND SINISTER AND HAVE "DEATH NOTE" PRINTED ON IT 24/7

Dude, I have all day! Feel free to ramble away. I love hearing theories about this 'cause I came into the fandom so late, so I missed everything.

IT SO IS. DAMN THAT SERIES. And just twice? I had to read it five times. D: I'm like, what why did Mikami take out the Death Note, what where did that fake one come from and how did Near get the real one and OH GOD DID MELLO KNOW HE WAS GONNA DIE KSJFAWLKJRALKWJR

I don't want to discredit Mello and say he wasn't smart enough to realize he was probably going to die so I figure he knew, which only meant that why would he do it if it was going to kill him? Because technically the whole thing was about beating Near and avenging L but at some point "beating Near" must have fallen on his significance list below "avenging L" and the only way to avenge L was to make whatever Near planned work... And since he had contact with Hal he sort of knew what Near planned and THIS IS WHERE IT GOES BLAH. Was he smart enough to see that Near's plan was flawed and decided he needed to do something drastic?

I think that was it. And he figured out that the only way to avenge L and bring down Kira was to save Near in a very DISCREET, SUICIDAL FASHION and thus. Um. HE KIND OF FLIPPED IN THE END AND PUT HIS SELFISH DESIRES BEHIND. Decided that Avenging L was more important than Beating Near if he could take down Kira in the process. ANYWAY. -pantpant-

YEAH I'M GLAD TAKADA DIED TOO. D

That's what I thought too. 'cause I mean, Mello wasn't the second in line to succeed L for a reason, and it really bugs me when people just say, "Oh he must've been stupid; that's why he died." And it's like KJSfkjaH NO. I mean, he cornered Light into a wall and got the Death Note from him-- that's proof that he's smart enough to come up with a plan that works. So, yeah, avenging L became his #1 goal 'cause L's always been his #1, and then that's why he ended up dying for this. 8( I think that cleared up my confusion a bit.

But sometimes I think, if Mello had enough time to plan, if Mello didn't rush himself into acting, then he would've been alive. And he'd be gloating to Near that, haha, you would've failed without me. Or something. D:

SHE WAS POINTLESS BUT I GUESS NECESSARY. I HATE THE FACT THAT SHE WAS THE ONE THAT KILLED MELLO THO.
