(Anonymous) 2012-09-27 12:15 am (UTC)(link)I totally agree with you, anon! But overall it doesn't change the fact that they're white though. Likewise, in countries like China there are Asian ethnic majorities that have more privileged than other Asian ethnic minorities, but it doesn't change the fact that although the dominant ethnic group (in this instance, Han Chinese) has privilege, it doesn't make Han Chinese people stop being POC.
/lol race wank indeed

(Anonymous) 2012-09-27 01:06 am (UTC)(link)That's where it gets weird. A Han Chinese in the US however would certainly be a POC. But POC has definite connotations of oppression/lack of privilege, you can't get away from that. Calling Han Chinese in China POC is awkward because of those connotations: in China, they don't lack any privileges that white people have. If they're the default, they can't be considered a group that is other-than-default; assuming white is the default for the whole world is mildly racist in itself.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-27 01:27 am (UTC)(link)It makes them look like they don't know there's more people outside USA.
