Hmmm, I'm trying to decide on how 'worth it' it would be considering how you don't always end up the place you want to be and you're really travelling on the whim of the Doctor and the TARDIS.

I'd really prefer to not have so much responsibility placed on my shoulders.

I'd do it in a heartbeat (or, you know, two.) Come on. The entire universe out there? Even if you don't always end up where you mean to go, you still end up somewhere amazing. Obviously, I know it's not real, but I really, really wish it was.

As long as I get to take my Rory with me, I'd be gone in an instant.

Well, the responsibility of it being a 'job' means I can't be bad at helping save the universe. Something I'm sure I don't excel in.

The amount of life endangering events that happen is also a downer.

Plus, as another anon mentioned, the retirement plan sucks.

In theory being a companion sounds great. In practice it is a more convoluted issue.

The health coverage is halfway decent considering the risks associated, but the retirement package sucks.

I do love Amy and Rory, but I'm always going to find it terribly sad that Donna just got one season. I miss her, too.

Er, wasn't it she who stopped the Doctor from making a very grave mistake all the way back in The Beast Below?

But I think she's been a great companion, so I'm hardly unbiased.

Lol, 'job'. Companions are there to balance out the Doctor and act as the audience perspective in a way. If you don't like Amy or what she does most of the time, that's fine, but she's not "failing" as a companion in any way.

It's not a job, but it's true that Moffat refuses to allow Amy to be proactive most of the time like previous companions, which is a damn shame, but unsurprising from him.

The 'best' recent thing was when that horrid promo image for Asylum of the Daleks came out, and everyone was like "STOP CRITICIZING IT I BET AMY SAVES THE DAY," and not only did she not save the day, but she was rendered pretty much useless throughout the episode (because the Doctor allowed her to start turning into a Dalek so she could solve her marriage problems).

Basically though I don't really hold this against Amy. I hold all my disdain for Moffat. I'll freely dislike Rory and Eleven though.
