Annoying things people do when they talk

(Anonymous) 2012-09-28 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
This is one of my most hated:

A: What do you think of X?
B: I like it, here's why......
C: I don't really like it, here's why.....
A and B: Yeah, well, I don't think it's the MOST IMPORTANT PROBLEM EVER. Why are you making such a big deal about it!!!!

So why bring it up in the first place, A, if it's so unimportant?

Yessssss, it annoys the crap out of me when someone brings something up, then right after says 'I don't want to talk about it.'

Just...wtf? Why did you bring it up if you weren't wanting to, or at least willing to talk about it?

Though, the people who are passive agressive, say something's wrong...'But I want *you* to bring it up!' ...Even though you've got no freaking way of knowing what's upsetting.

I hate when people ask me to guess and then keep talking without letting me guess.

And "You know what I'm saying?". Especially when it isn't even used as a question.

That's a jerk move.

Isn't the whole point of that question to check if the person understands you?

On of my brother's friends seems to think it's punctuation. He can say it four times in a breath. I've counted.

Pretty close reenactment of what my brother had to do the last time I had to listen to the dude talk.

eta: If you squint it looks like Spock is saying "I hate it so much". :D

Oh my. That's unfortunate.

:o It does look like that. It also looks like Kirk is saying, "your hate!"

(Your gif reminds me of the bad touch gif, by the way.)

I'm doing a group project in my Advanced Film Production class at school and my group is crazy dysfunctional. One guy in my group is SO passive-aggressive in the way he talks that it drives me NUTS. He's like

"Oh, well I just thought this would be a really good idea and I put a lot of effort into this idea, but if you guys don't want to do it..."

Also, apparently because I haven't seen American Horror Story or It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the fact that I want to be a TV screenwriter is somehow ridiculous. He literally told me "For someone who wants to be a screenwriter you sure haven't seen a lot of stuff."

Ughhhhhhhhhhh. It's like, I appreciate what he's trying to say, but he's both passive-aggressive AND kind of a control freak and it just is making this project so frustrating.

:/ That's pretty shitty behavior.

However, I will admit to hemming and hawing kind of like what you first quoted. Though I wouldn't say the "I worked hard on it" thing most of the time. I do this less because I'm trying to be passive aggressive and get my way but more because I'm intimidated, have an idea, and don't feel comfortable voicing my opinion.

But judging from the other things this guy has said he's an ass.

I'm sorry you have to deal with him. Hopefully it will be over soon.

If it makes you feel better I don't really like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Good luck in dealing with him.

I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing; I do it a bit, myself, since I'm pretty self-conscious especially if it's not a good idea. His thing is that you can clearly tell that this is the only option for him, but he's not flat out saying "we should do this." Also, the context of the main time he did that was that he wanted to change the whole concept for our project yesterday, when a TON of paperwork/a script is due on Tuesday.

Thank you; I've been kind of venting this to some people, and no one thinks I'm crazy for being super frustrated with him, lol.

Yeah, I get it. It's all about tone and body language, not exactly what's said.

Please tell me you guys said no and booted him in the ass.

I think that's because we've all had to deal with people like him. We can empathize with your position.

I cannot recall this ever happening to me. I think the closest I've ever come to it would be:

(Starting the conversation)
Me: X kind of bothered me because of...
A: No, you just don't understand. You see...

Or something like it. Such things always make me feel like shit though so I generally don't participate in the conversation after that. Rarely, I'm able to argue back but yeah, it's really, really rare for that to happen.

Oh my god, my dad does this to me all the time:

"I don't believe in tipping."
"Well, how are waiters supposed to live if you don't tip?"
"They make minimum wage."
"No, they don't. Why do you think you can still get $1.99 breakfasts in Florida? Because the restaurants are allowed to not pay minimum if the waiters have a reasonable expectation to make it up in tips. Cheap people like you are making them poor. Plus, minimum wage is never enough, anyway."
"I don't want to talk about it."
"Then why did you bring it up? We were talking about sales tax."
